Walther PPQ M2 9mm

Walther-PPQ-M205

Given the sterling performance of the 5-inch PPQ M2, we had high hopes for the shorter barreled model, and accuracy testing from the bench at 25 yards did not disappoint. The pistol was extremely consistent across ammunition types and bullet weights, but the clear winner was Black Hills 115-grain Barnes TAC-XP +P with a 5-shot group measuring 1.80” center to center, and the best three in 0.60”. Not far behind was the Remington 124-grain Ultimate Defense BJHP, with a 5-shot group measuring 2.41”, and the best three in 0.92”. Black Hills 124-grain JHP +P punched five holes all within 2.55” of one another, with its best three going into 1.03”. Coming in last was the Hornady 135-grain Critical Duty FTX, with a 5-shot group measuring 2.92”, and a best three of 1.14”.

The 4-inch PPQ M2’s best 5-shot group was 0.42” smaller than the worst group fired from the 5-inch model, while its worst group was 1.12” larger. Considering that we were shooting the same four brands of ammo (from the same boxes) used to test the 5-inch PPQ M2, I think its fair to conclude that the shorter barrel has a slightly negative effect on accuracy. But any 4-inch barreled pistol that can put every shot into less than three inches at 25 yards is as accurate as a defensive pistol ever needs to be.
