SIG Sauer 9mm SIG MPX

Since there's no buffer tube required for the recoil system, like the MCX, the MPX's stock attaches to the rear of the lower receiver via a strip of Picatinny rail. SIG offers multiple stock options, including the telescoping and side-folding versions shown here, as well as SIG's SB15 or SBX Pistol Stabilizing Brace for pistol-length MPX offerings.

The buttstock on our evaluation gun was the telescoping version. Riding on two steel tubes, its has three locking positions, a textured rubber butt pad, a sling loop at the forward end and QD sling swivel receptacles on both sides at the rear. It attaches to the vertical Picatinny rail section at the rear of the lower receiver via a single hex head machine screw. Overall length of the MPX with the stock fully extended is 30.0 inches; with it fully collapsed, 28.5 inches.

SIG Sauer describes the trigger only as “AR style” with a stated pull weight of 7.5 lbs. The trigger on our sample gun functioned like a 2-stage, a first stage travel of less than 1/8 inch at a pull weight of 5 lbs. 9 oz.. Then second stage involves no perceptible additional trigger movement and breaks smartly at a total pull weight of 6 lbs. 12 oz. Overall, it’s a damned nice trigger, and much better than we expected after reading the published specs.

25-yard precision was outstanding, as evidenced by this sub-one-inch group—printed with SIG's own Elite Performance 115-gr. FMJ load.

At the range, since the MPX fires a pistol cartridge, we decided to test it at our normal 25-yard pistol-distance. Our ammo selection ran the gamut in manufacturers, and ranged from 115 to 147 grain weights—in both FMJ and hollow-point. Our MPX ate it all without complaint, and ran with 100% reliability throughout testing. Felt recoil and muzzle rise were nearly non-existent. The one load that shined during bench-testing, ironically, was SIG’s own 115-gr. Elite Performance FMJ—turning in a tight 0.98″, 5-shot group cluster. We’re quickly growing to love this new ammo and extremely-positive experiences with it so far this year.

The MPX comes with one 30-round Lancer magazine, an adjustable nylon web sling with QD buckle and QD sling swivels at both ends, two 5-slot KeyMod Picatinny rail sections and a rail-mount QD sling swivel receptacle. Contact SIG Sauer; Tel.: (603) 610-3000; Web: www.sigsauer.com — OT Staff.
