The new Zeiss Conquest V4 family of riflescopes is based on a 4x zoom ratio, incorporates a 30mm main tube, and consists of 1-4x24mm, 3-12x56mm, 4-16x44mm, and 6-24x50mm variations. Each scope delivers 90% to-the-eye light transmission, and offers 1/4 MOA click adjustments for windage and elevation, second focal plane reticle designs, and a 60 to 100 MOA of total elevation and windage adjustment (depending upon model). The 1-4x24mm model is available with either capped or external elevation turrets, while the 3-12x56mm version comes standard with capped elevation and windage turrets. The 4-16x44mm and 6-24x50mm models have external elevation turrets which also include Zeiss’ Ballistic Stop feature to ensure an absolute and positive return to zero under any conditions.
Our evaluation model—and the winner of this 2018 On Target Editors’ Choice Award—was the 6-24x50mm Conquest V4 ($1,099 to $1,199). It’s built on a one-piece, 30mm, machined aluminum main tube hard anodized in matte black, with a 44.9mm ocular lens and a 50mm objective lens. The ocular lens has a padded, rotating diopter adjustment ring with an adjustment range of -3 to +2 diopter. Magnification range is 6x to 24x, and a magnification power throw lever is available as an option. Several reticle options are available, including a traditional plex-style, and Zeiss’ newest ZMOA and ZBR MOA-based smart reticles. llluminated reticles are offered optionally, and all reticles are set in the second focal plane. T* 6-layer multi coatings are applied to all internal lens surfaces, while the exterior lens surfaces get the Zeiss Lotu-Tec hydrophobic (water shedding) coating. Nitrogen purging prevents lenses from fogging and the scope is waterproof to 4 meters for two hours.
Field of view at 100 yards is 19 feet at 6X and 4.8 feet at 24x. Exit pupil diameter ranges from 7.5mm to 2.1mm, and eye relief is 3.5 inches. An adjustable side dial provides parallax-free viewing from 50 yards to infinity. Elevation adjustment range is 80 MOA, while windage adjustment range is 60 mm. The 6-24x50mm Conquest V4 is 14.5 inches long overall and weighs 24.4 oz. During testing we were mightily impressed with our sample scope’s ZMOA1 illuminated reticle. We tested it at ranges from 100 to 500 yards, and I’d be delighted to mount it on any prairie-dog, elk rifle or precision rifle where long-range is the name of the game. Clarity, light transmission and color fidelity were all as good as they get. This is a lot of optic for the money.
