Wilson Combat 125-gr. ME 300 HAM’R

Wilson Combat 125-gr. ME 300 HAM’R (from $35.50 per box of 20)

Don’t be too hard on yourself if you’re unfamiliar with the 300 HAM’R cartridge. Put simply, the 300 HAM’R was designed to be the most versatile AR-15 “ranch rifle” chambering in existence but has been considered more of a wildcat-type round until Wilson Combat and ammunition manufacturer Lehigh Defense became one. The round has proven capable of taking medium-sized game to 500 yards and even some larger game within 300 yards. Because of its extreme versatility, it has become one of our favorite AR-15 chamberings to date. As time goes by, we expect it’ll become one of yours as well.

Based upon a stretched 300 BLK case, Lehigh has improved accuracy and consistency by using proven .308 bullets. Increased case capacity and more efficient powders increase velocity over the 300BLK by about 200 fps. While 300BLK benefits from a fast 1:5 twist, the opposite is seemingly true with the HAM’R. Lehigh discovered a slower twist rate made for better long-range consistency using bullets in the 110-150 grain range. As such, it has released a couple of new projectiles optimized for two different twist rates.

Lehigh Defense Maximum Expansion technology produces projectiles that create the largest wound channels of any bullet on the market. A 125-grain Maximum Expansion bullet is specifically designed to create a large-expanding, high-weight-retention 300 HAM’R projectile optimized for 1:15 twist rate barrels. A second 125-grain projectile is also available utilizing the same Maximum Expansion technology but optimized for 1:12 and 1:13 twist rate barrels.
