Silencer Central Banish 45

One tool, many jobs
While ATF approval times have recently improved, purchasing a suppressor can still be a commitment of time and patience. What many people reading this may need to learn, however, is that Silencer Central remains the easiest, most hassle-free way to obtain a handgun or rifle suppressor, hands down. Arduous ATF Form 4 paperwork? Like the smart kid who wrote all of your essays in high school, Silencer Central whips this out for you. Are you a conspiracy theorist who’s afraid to step foot out of your house for fear of a helicopter spotting you? If so, you’ll appreciate the fact that you’ll only have to greet the Fed-Ex guy at your bunker’s front door; Silencer Central ships your new suppressor directly to your residence after the ATF, in their infinite wisdom, deems you fit to own such a device. Add to this the free NFA Trust option — allowing you to share your suppressor with those who you designate as well as choose who inherits it — and the Silencer Central route becomes all that much more appealing.

To date, On Target has tested every one of Silencer Central’s Banish suppressor offerings, and when we can’t find one significant drawback or really even one nit-picky complaint across an entire product line, to us, that’s an impressive feat for any manufacturer. In fact, it just never happens. One suppressor we have been using for a couple of years now but have yet to cover a formal review on is the company’s Banish 45, which is an oversight on our part because it’s still one of the best, most versatile handgun/pistol-caliber-carbine cans currently on the market.
Need one suppressor to cover all of your handgun needs? Unless we’re talking large, oddball calibers, a .45 can will get you there. The Banish 45, as the name alludes to, is a .45 caliber suppressor, but — regardless of its internal bore — it’s not just for .45 caliber weapons. The Banish 45 is suitable for rimfire cartridges and anything up to a .45 caliber handgun round. To accomplish this, the Banish 45 is available with nine different threaded pistons to match your threaded barrel, including .578×28, 1/2×28, 5/8×24, 5/8×32, 9/16×24, M13.5×1 LH, M14.5×1 LH, M16x1 RH, and M16x1 LH; in other words, essentially all of them.

One of our favorite aspects of the Banish 45 design is its modularity. Its 1-3/8” diameter main tube is comprised of two sections, one long and one short, with the ability to unscrew the end cap, remove the short section, and reduce the overall length of the suppressor by approximately two inches. In its short configuration, the Banish 45 tips the scales at a feathery-light 9.6oz, and keeping it full-length adds less than 1.5oz. Given its lightweight Titanium construction, this suppressor does very little to upset balance, even on compact pistols.
Silencer Central claims an impressive 36-decibel sound reduction when using the Banish 45 for the sub-bore 9mm. We’re assuming testing was done in its 8.6-inch full-length configuration. Still, our testing has confirmed that there is indeed less of a sound signature than the majority of smaller dedicated 9mm suppressors — even with its larger internal bore. To date, we’ve tested the Banish 45 on 10mm, 45 ACP, 9mm, and .22LR handguns with outstanding suppression levels across the board. Our test subject has thousands of rounds through it as of writing this, and the tube, mount, and baffles show no perceivable wear. This brings us to our next point — serviceability. The Banish 45 can be completely disassembled for not only cleaning, but if you happen to have a baffle strike, you’re a part(s) replacement away from up and running again.

If you’re looking for an outstanding do-it-all handgun/PCC suppressor, the Banish 45 ($949) represents a very attractive option. For more information contact Silencer Central; Tel.: (866) 891-4494; E-mail: [email protected]; Web: www.silencercentral.com
