Howa Superlight Rifle ($1,399)
Howa continues to step up its game, and the new Superlight rifle exemplifies that trend. First off, we’re suckers for Kryptek’s Altitude camouflage pattern; it’s smart looking and blends in so well in our neck of the woods it’s not even funny. Where it might not blend as well, the Superlight is also offered in Kryptek’s Obskua Transitional pattern. Camo patterns aside, this new offering is a unique build in that it is between the popular Howa Mini Action and standard short-action platforms and could very well be the perfect mountain- or deep-backcountry rifle.
The Superlight comes with a 20-inch suppressor-ready barrel chambered in your choice of 6.5 Creedmoor or .308 Win. — two of our favorite general-purpose cartridges. A one-piece Picatinny rail provides plenty of optic mounting freedom, while a detachable box magazine makes loading and unloading a snap. The fully machined receiver features a forged bolt that is cut true and squared to the chamber. Weighing in at just 4.7-pounds, this mountain rifle is not only easy to carry all day but will shoulder quickly, ready to perform when called upon.
