Mossberg 940 Pro Turkey ($1,120)

Mossberg 940 Pro Turkey ($1,120)

Oh man, do we love this time of year. Turkey hunting is definitely one of our favorite hunts, as they’re typically action-packed and don’t require a ton of expensive, specialized equipment to be successful. After a decent Turkey call, five items you shouldn’t forgo are bug dope, camouflage clothing, a good Turkey-specific ammunition load, a red dot optic, and of course, a quality shotgun.

On the shotgun front, Mossberg’s new 940 Pro Turkey shotguns come optic-ready, with receiver cuts to accept a low-profile, direct mounting of Shield RMSc-pattern micro dot sights, which include SIG’s Romeozero and Holosun’s 507K X2, to name a few. These miniature red-dot sights offer improved eye alignment and target acquisition, but a cover plate is included for when the optic is not in use or if you choose to roll with the factory-equipped HiViz CompSight front fiber optic only. Inside, you’ll find a durable gas system that allows for up to a claimed 1,500 rounds between cleanings and a host of corrosion-resistant internal parts/finishing (nickel boron-coated gas piston, magazine tube, hammer, and sear). These are, of course, in addition to an enlarged/beveled loading port, elongated elevator, and anodized follower for silky smooth operation. Outside, a self-draining adjustable stock allows for 1.25-inches of length-of-pull flexibility. The 940 Pro Turkey is available with either an 18.50 or 24-inch barrel equipped, both fitted with an X-Factor XX-Full Turkey choke tube. The stock and streamlined forend feature Mossberg’s signature texturing for a secure grip in all weather conditions, and the entire gun is finished in Mossy Oak’s Greenleaf camo pattern.
